Save UEA Music campaign

The Save UEA Music campaign is approaching its final few days with a decision due to be made on the future of The School of Music at University Council this Monday 28^th November.

We have now gathered over 10,000 signatures in support of our campaign. On Wednesday we held a mass meeting where we discussed the Universities proposals to close the school and also what the alternatives are. At this meeting it was announced that the Royal Music Association (RMA) and the National Association for Music in Higher Education (NAMHE) has offered the services of 4 senior academic subject specialists with proven track records for running financially successful schools of music. So far the University has declined to comment on such an offer and unfortunately seems determined to follow through with the recommendations of the flawed and biased review. The final decision is due to be made this Monday 28^th November by the University Council which will be sitting at 9.30am. We are asking Save UEA Music supporters to come along to the UEA campus on this day in order to show the councillors making the decision just how strong the public backlash against the proposal has been. We will be gathering in the square at 9.00am, before heading to The Registry to arrive at around 9.15am. Just before 10am when Council members are due to arrive, a klaxon will sound and Silence will fall. Council members will be quietly observed entering the building and we are encouraging no shouting, booing or any noise during this period. Once Council members are in the building, a second klaxon will sound and normal proceedings will return. We are making this an all day event, with music in the Square and a general 'carnival' type atmosphere. We are anticipating the decision from Council at around 4pm.
