Politicians daily pronounce on the hard times, but First Minister Carwyn Jones, his Cabinet and the rank and file AMs of all parties who assemble in the Senedd in Cardiff Bay are a bit more rough and ready than their London counterparts who spout the party line with a glibness taken to new heights. Where is Wales, 13 years after devolution asks Roy Jones.

The 4 June 2009 euro election was a turning point in national politics. For the first time in one hundred years, a trade union, the RMT, sponsored a political movement other than Labour.

The communists were active in the No2EU: Yes to Democracy campaign at every level - national and local - and were an important component of the national steering committee.

The CP has a consistent record of exposing the role of capital, united in various forms such as the EEC, Common Market and now the EU. It's members have been in the forefront of the struggle against the Lisbon Treaty which would undermine sovereignty and democracy, moving decision making away from popular influence and control.

This EU & popular sovereignty CP advisory is charged with 'keeping watch' and alerting the labour movement to developments. It hosts a discussion group which CP members can access above, circulates an e-bulletin update and researches key issues relating to the EU - such as the development of militarism, or the Posted Worker's Directive. It ensures that the party is in the forefront of campaigns which oppose the EU. Many of those taking part have national experience of this struggle going back decades and stood as candidates for the No2EU: Yes to Democracy electoral list.

If you have issues you want to raise and bring to our attention email the advisory secretary above.

    Housing

As the Government looks to the housebuilding industry to kick start the economy we see housing policy in its most fluid state since the Thatcherite attack on social housing in the early 1980s.

For the first time in nearly three decades, Council house building is back on the national political agenda. Many of the pillars of housing policy are beginning to crumble into the sand on which they have been built as the impact of the sub-prime mortgage scandal begins to take its toll on over-extended households exploited on a pathetic minimum wage.

The Government's response is too little to late. There is a pressing need to increase the supply of affordable housing, not just for the poorest in society but the millions of workers on low to middle incomes who are struggling on a daily basis to pay the mortgage and keep a roof over their heads.
